Basic Maple Syrup Production Workshop Recap

It is sap season! We started out this special season with a workshop on Basic Maple Syrup Production with expert instructors Tim and Amber Woodrow of Timber's Sugar Shack in Aitkin.


Tim and Amber were both raised in Aitkin, Amber on a dairy farm near Kimberly, and Tim just south of Aitkin. They graduated from Aitkin as high school sweethearts in 2002.

Tim is a 5th generation maple syrup producer.Tim and Amber began their own syruping adventure in 2009 with 15 tree taps. Today they are tapping trees just 7.5 miles from Long Lake Conservation Center, with 550-600 taps.


In 2017 they opened their own supply store as they saw the need for themselves and the community. They have built a new sugar house and are ready for boiling!


Tim and Amber facilitated an informative workshop to cover the ins and outs of maple syruping, the how tos, and the what not to dos. They showed us what equipment to use, provided tons of facts, provided some yummy samples, and took us outside to ID maple tress and showed us the proper tree tapping technique.
